K.R.T. RADJIMAN WEDIODININGRAT IS MY FAVORITE LEADER

  by Dhirendra Adiprakoso

INTRODUCTION

The reason why I choose this PDR topic is because I like to get involved in politics and history. And I think if I choose this topic, it has both politics and history all together. Another reason why I choose this topic is that I would like to be a good leader in a certain field and if I choose my ideal leader, maybe I can follow his actions or behavior in becoming and acting as a good leader. I think this will benefit other people because I can give them knowledge about my favorite leader and they could like him also.

The reason why I choose Dr. K.R.T. Radjiman Wediodiningrat as my favorite leader is because for one part, he is my great great grandfather so he is a part of my family. Secondly, he is a leader of the legislative part of the old government and also the leader of BPUPKI. And lastly, he is very wise and always kept his compulsive behavior even though he went to a tough time during his time as a leader.

Dr. K.R.T. Radjiman Wediodiningrat was born at Mlati village, Glondongan area, Yogyakarta, Indonesia at 21st of April 1879. He was actually a son of a soldier that protected Indonesia from international threats. His mother was Javanese, while his father was Bugis. Dr. Wahidin Soedirohoesodo was actually part of his family as a stepfather and also the successor of Boedi Oetomo as principal. His childhood history was very inspiring since his stepfather came along.

                           METHODOLOGY

I do this project by books and the Internet for my research and methodology for this project. I use an official website for my methodology on becoming a good leader. I used a biography book for the methodology and research about Dr. K.R.T Radjiman Wediodiningrat. I also used the Internet for a little bit of research and analysis about Dr. K.R.T Radjiman Wediodiningrat.

Barbara White, president of beyond better development, said that, to be a good leader we need to have some factors that can support a good leader to be classified as a good leader. The first one is that a good leader needs to have a trustworthy character. Second, a good leader should be enthusiastic about his work and also their role as leader.  Third, a leader should be confident in any problem. It means that, a good leader inspires other people and uses the best efforts to complete the task well. Fourth, a good leader should function in a proper manner in an uncertain situation. So the people can rely on the leader easily. Fifth, a good leader should be calm, tolerant, and steadfast with the main purpose. A good leader will go through problems and the leader will always have a cool head ahead and takes it as a journey. Sixth, a good leader is able to think analytically. It means that a good leader could make progress in steps that have problems. Seventh and last, a good leader is committed in excellence and wanting to have excellence in all areas and does not lead to success.

                  RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

Based on the book about Dr. Radjiman, were the leader of BPUPKI and also the leader of the legislative part of the government. He became helpful during his term of office. He also became the Javanese doctor that served for the keraton of Surakarta. He was given the title K.R.T. by the sultan and also helped people who got plague that at the time broke out in his village where he lived. After he became the leader of BPUPKI, he became a very well advisor to Soekarno, Moh. Hatta, and his fellow assistants that helped him during his time at office.

After he became the leader of BPUPKI, he was faced by problems with his family. Both of his sons had died and his leadership was faced with two groups having different opinions on how Indonesia should be lead by. But he was considered as a wise and able to show his calm and assertive behavior. In his speech when he was appointed as the leader of BPUPKI, he showed that in his reign he would show a democratic feeling between his fellow members of BPUPKI and also himself. So Dr. K.R.T Radjiman Wediodiningrat was far beyond the imagination of how people think his way of leading mixed with his leadership behavior is.

Dr. K.R.T Radjiman Wediodiningrat is ideal to be a good leader because he was very wise, assertive, and confident and always look forward on how he will lead during his reign and how his fellow members will react with his way of leading.

After BPUPKI is replaced with PPKI, he became a member of PPKI and also assisted Soekarno in his leadership. When Dr. K.R.T Radjiman Wediodiningrat, Soekarno, and Moh. Hatta went to Saigon and Dalat secretly, they met with the leader of the Japanese forces based in Vietnam. The purpose of this trip is for the approval of PPKI and the starting of PPKI, and that the republic of Indonesia is occupying the whole Nederland-Indie territory.

When PPKI is operating, Dr. K.R.T Radjiman Wediodiningrat also became the member of KNIP and helped the approval of KNIP from the newly formed government. And besides being active in the KNIP, Dr. Radjiman is also working for the DPA (Dewan Pertimbangan Agung). After a few years working for the DPA, Dr. Radjiman became a member of DPR (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat). And because he was the oldest member at DPR, he was chosen as the leader of the first meeting of the DPR. But this was not rare because he was also chosen as the leader of the first meeting at KNIP because of his age.

As Dr. Radjiman’s age came older, his passion and dedication for continuing his role in the government. But since he is old and is limited by his age, he was only able to fill in his spot at the DPR for only 2 years. He was having a long journey through his leadership and he actually needed to take a train from his house in the remote place of Walikukun to Jakarta yet he also needs to visit one cabinet after another. By the day of September 20, 1952 Dr. K.R.T Radjiman Wediodiningrat captured his last breath and was called by God to come back to his presence. Everyone from the leaders of Indonesia, the people of the Surakarta palace, to the people of Walikukun especially the people of Dirgo, had felt they had lost a person with a very wise and senior person that they had respected for many years. Soekarno, the president of Indonesia, who was visiting the family of the palace, was very sad and cried after hearing the faithful news. The president then cancelled all of his activities and came to his funeral. To remember Dr. Radjiman’s name, the government gave the national star to his grandchild.
CONCLUSION AND RECCOMENDATION

My conclusion is that I think that Dr. K.R.T Radjiman Wediodiningrat is an ideal leader because he has fulfilled the characteristics described by Barbara White. By his attitude, way of leading, and also his behavior on everyone he works with including his fellow friends at the BPUPKI and the PPKI. He was confident and always struggles to find a way out of the problems he faced during his time at leadership. This could also be presented by his wise way of talking with his fellow friends and advising them when they are in leadership, especially in advising Soekarno.

My conclusion for my PDR project this term is that I think this one of my best PDR because it lets learn more about one of my favorite subjects and also let one of my ancestors get involved in my PDR project. This PDR project is very important because I would also like to be a good leader someday, and if I it hadn’t been for this topic for my PDR project, I would’ve struggled on becoming a good leader. I think I had a good advisor and a good progress in my PDR project and also support other students doing the same PDR topic as I do. And I think this term’s PDR project is also inspires me on knowing why a good leader should do this or act like this or just like being an ideal type for people on exampling that leaders way of leading and how he leads that becomes interesting.

My recommendation on becoming a good leader is to always be calm and assertive and always have a vision on looking what’s ahead and what’s going to be the future for the country and also the people. Because it’s not only the government that is dragged into the problem, the people are also dragged into this problem because the news can be held around and all over the country. Another recommendation is that a good leader should be careful and always helping for the people that are in need. In this case, a good leader can be an inspiration for people to follow his actions. If the leader can be an example for people, a good leader can also be an example for other leaders to follow the leader’s actions during leadership. If this is happening, every country’s leader can be a good leader for himself and the people.

To have this kind of behavior, a good leader should also have a certain behavior of kindness to become a good leader. Since kindness can lead to happiness in a leader’s people, happiness should happen in a good leader’s behavior.
